Biography

William was born about 1784 in North Carolina. He is understood to be the son of Owen Carpenter and Sarah Rachel Smith. William married Susan. Some identify her as Susan Allen but this may merely be a matter of confusing the couple with another William Carpenter (abt.1770-abt.1851) and Susan (Allen) Carpenter (abt.1787-abt.1894). In 1850 the present William and wife Susan are enumerated on the federal census in Yalobusha County, Mississippi. [1] William died 1863 in Arkansas.
