The john in the profile in question is mentioned in this Descendants of John Carpenter (Not to say any of this is correct, but these links are a starting point for further investigation.
Find a Grave information is unsourced and should never be considered a reliable source for pre-1700 profiles unless there is an image of a headstone or memorial.
There are now 4 sons named William for this profile, but one of them looks like he is conflated between 2 others, since his birth year matches one and his death year matches a different one. BUT without sources, it is hard to know the difference, other than location.
So many wives in this paternal line, named Joan / Joanne & Abigail, may suggest common names at the time & place or that some wives got mixed up with each other during research.
Are there any sources for this person, his brother(s), and son Wm Allison Carpenter (other than pedigrees and submissions to LDS archive)? Through several generations there should be at least some documentary evidence for a few people within the family. This seems thin on evidence. I would be happy to help research this if others are working on it.
