Biography

Coles Carpenter Jr., son of Coles Carpenter and Elizabeth Birdsall, was born 29 Oct 1804[1] at Richmond Corners, Queens, New Brunswick. Coles married Sarah Sypher on 25 Sep 1828 in New Brunswick.[1] Sarah Magdala Cyphers, daughter of David and Mary, was baptized 10 Mar 1811 at Grand Lake, New Brunswick.[2]

Note: Coles and Sarah named one of their sons George Robinson Carpenter. He was born at Wickham, Queens County on 24 Jul 1837. Another Coles Carpenter lost his young wife, Sarah Eliza Robinson, to consumption at Hampstead, Queens County on 9 Apr 1837, an indication that the two Coles Carpenters were related.

Sarah M. Carpenter died in New Brunswick in 1851 at the age of 41.[12]

Coles Carpenter, aged 57, is living with a son and daughter beside the Cyphers family at Richmond, Carleton County, New Brunswick in 1861:[13]

In 1871 Coles, aged 67, lives with his son Archy, wife Maria and their children at at Richmond, Carleton County.[14] Coles, aged 76, is recorded on the 1881 Census for Richmond, Carleton, New Brunswick, still living with the family of his son Archealus, a farmer.[15]

Research Notes

This is not the Coles Carpenter who married Catherine Green, widow of Willett Carpenter (Coles was a first cousin of both Willett Carpenter and Catherine Green).
