Biography

Samuel was born in 1776. He was the son of Cyril Carpenter and Lucy Lane. [1] Rev Samuel Carpenter was a Baptist minister,

Rev. Samuel Carpenter married Rhoda Carpenter (h tishird cousin) on 9 Feb 1797 in Attleboro, Bristol, Massachusetts. Together they had the following children: [2]

  • Lanard Carpenter was born on 15 Nov 1797 in Attleboro, Bristol, MA.
  • Stephen Lane Carpenter was born on 7 Apr 1799 in Attleboro, Bristol, MA.
  • Samuel Darius Carpenter was born on 20 Dec 1800. He died on 16 May 1854.
  • John Wesley Carpenter was born on 11 Mar 1803.
  • Thornton Carpenter was born on 29 Apr 1804 in Attleboro, Bristol, MA.
  • Phinius Thomas Carpenter was born on 18 Feb 1805 in Brattleboro, Windham, VT. He died on 4 Jun 1818 in Brattleboro, Windham, VT.
  • Rhoda Carpenter was born on 12 Feb 1808.
  • Cyril Carpenter was born on 26 Jan 1810. He died on 13 Jan 1873.
  • James Creighton Carpenter was born on 27 Feb 1813. He died on 22 Nov 1890.
  • Jonah Hill Carpenter was born on 14 Feb 1817. He died on 19 Apr 1911.
  • Elkannah Lane Carpenter was born on 20 May 1819. He died on 23 Apr 1908.

In the 1850 census [3] Samuel and his wife Rhoda are living in Brunswick, Medina, Ohio with their son Cyril, his wife Charolotte, and four of their children, Henry C. (age 14), Lucy J. (age 12), Amelia (age 9) and Pheba [SIC] (age 4). By the 1860 census [4] Samuel and his wife are still with the family of their son Cyril, which has now moved to Michigan; although, several of the children have moved out by then.

Samuel passed away in 1844, and was (re)buried at West Sebewa Cemetery, Lake Odessa, Ionia County, Michigan. Find A Grave: Memorial #41806155
