Biography

Ira B. was born in 1823. Ira B. was the child of Barber Carpenter and Elenor Bronson. Ira B. passed away about 1923.

Comrade Carpenter was a Private in Co. D, 58th Pa. V.I. which was assigned to 3rd Brig., 3d Div., 24th A.C., and at the time of his enlistment which occurred when 41 years old at Bingham PA., September 29, 1864, he was by occupation a shoemaker. March 20, 1865, he was treated in hospital at Fortress Monroe, VA, about three months with jaundice and diarrhea. With his Regt., he took part in the battles of Chapin Farm, Dec 10, 1864. Lane Creek, and considerable scouting and skirmishing. Upon the close of the war, he was honorably discharged June 16, 1865, at Hampton Hospital, Ft. Monroe, VA. His brother Theodore, and two brothers of his wife, George, and John, all served in the late war; the latter teo of the 199th PA., V.I. Comrade Carpenter is a member of O.A. Lewis Post, and is a pensioner; he is at present engaged in farming and his address is Bingham Centre, Pennsylvania.
