After his service in the Revolutionary War, Simeon Carpenter and his friends Levi and Jonathan Fuller moved from Attleboro, MA, to Sutton, MA, and began a comb-making business there. Simeon married Sally Blanchard there.

"Comb making was introduced to town about 1780 by Simeon Carpenter, who came from Attleboro, and continued by him until 1815. Levi and Jonathan Fuller, who came from Attleboro about the same time with Mr. Carpenter, were also comb-makers by trade and carried on the business for many years, These combs were made from horn, bone, ivory, tin, and lead."
