This profile was once part of the claimed ancestry of a Carpenter family in Massachusetts, but the change log for this profile does not show whether it was once connected and became detached. It was derived from material on "One World Tree." It was part of the only Gedcom I ever uploaded to WikiTree and the debris from that upload continue to embarrass me! Thank you for your efforts to try to find anything confirming this person's existence. Day-1904 05:04, 19 June 2023 (UTC)

Jack, there is a Joan Carpenter buried 3 April 1598 at Horsham St Mary, Sussex. I will leave the source in the bio. No other Carpenter burials at this church in 1598.
The Carpenters of Wrington weren't there until the 1590s so unlikely this was a birth place. See Alexander Carpenter who did have his children in Wrington.
Thanks so much for this detective work. I have added an Uncertain Existence template to the profile, which prompts an evaluation of whether this person ever actually existed, and if not, is there any reason to retain the profile as disproven. If not, this profile could be amended to become that of Joan, who did exist. It's not too much to imagine that some editor saw "Joan" and mistook it for "John."
I would change John to Joan to get rid of this otherwise useless profile. Joan was possibly the daughter of Thomas and Ales who were buried at the same church some years earlier. It would need a will to prove the relationship.
