DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Etienne by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA test-takers in his direct paternal line.
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
Carpentier-86 and Charpentier-620 appear to represent the same person because: The daughter marguerite Carpentier who married Lazard Laveau had this father as documented in her profile. The dates are a broad estimate and the correct date is 1768. Her mother was Marie Hamelin who is the second wife of this Etienne.
After looking at all the records, I suspect that sons Joseph (b. about 1806) and Marc (b. 1799) are the same person. The baptismal record for Damase does not indicate two children were baptized.
Child baptized in 1799 as Marc Carpentier, son of Etienne Carpentier and Ursule Ferlatte. I could not locate any baptismal record for a son Joseph other than the sibling who was buried in 1805. I could not locate any marriage record under the name of Marc Carpentier. I reviewed burial record (Notre Dame de la Visitation, Champlain) for Marc (Mars) Carpentier, buried 01/13/1869 and deceased three days prior. His spouse was listed as Charlotte Ricard and his age at death was entered as 70 years which links him to other persona of "Joseph" who married Marie (Charlotte) Ricard on 11/05/1855 at Notre Dame de la Visitation, Champlain.
I will continue to search for any evidence that Joseph and Marc are not the same person but suspect merging these two children will eventually take place.
