Chauncey was born 1803-1806 in New York. He married Mary (Unknown) who was born in Scotland. They had at least five children by 1850.[1] The family seems to have settled permanently in Pennsylvania. [2] Even though he had a large family to support, Chauncy enlisted as a Private on the Union side in New York Infantry, Company B, 98th Regiment.[3] He returned safely to Pennsylvania and took up his life again.[4] In 1880, when he is 77 years of age, he does not say that he is retired; he tells the Census Taker that he is a farmer.[5] He died on 29 Feb 1888 in Pennsylvania.[6]
