Notes for Thomas Abbott Carr

(Ref 1) Thomas Abbott Carr (29 Oct. 1820 - 8 July 1886 ), the son of Thomas B. and Nancy Susan (Abbott) Carr, was twelve years of age when his grandfather William Carr wrote his will in 1833. Clearly his grandfather’s favorite, Thomas inherited four slaves, a tract of land including the plantation home, and household furniture and tools.

Thomas married Susan A. Waller (22 July 1829 - 29 Nov. 1906) in Person County, North Carolina, 26 December 1841.

The Census of 1850 for the Northern District of Halifax County enumerated Thomas and Susan, ages 25 and 21, with William C. 5, Robert T. 3, and Sarah A. 1. (Ref 2)

He was farming in Halifax County in 1870. With him were his wife Susan and children, Silas, Julina, Martha, Nancy, Mary, and John.

Susan and Thomas are buried in the Carr Family Cemetery off Highway 765 south of Republican Grove. His grave marker says he served in Co. K, 26th Virginia Infantry.
