Biography
Sabina Jane Carr, daughter of John Carr and his wife, Jane Borrow, was born at Winlaton, Gateshead and baptised in Newcastle upon Tyne on 25 October 1828. [1] She married Anthony Couper in Gateshead on 19 October 1846 [2]
Early in 1851 Sabina gave birth to a son called Matthew. Soon after the birth she was living in her parents' home. [3]
As Sabina Jane Carr aged 23 she married Joseph Beck at All Saints, Newcastle upon Tyne on 31 January 1853. [4][5]
By 1861 they were living in Gateshead with Sabina's son, Mathew Couper (called Matthew Beck) and three other sons and Joseph was working at his trade of mason. [6] Sabina and Joseph had another son, Martin, who was born in 1862.
The family has not been located in the 1871 Census. Sabina appeared in 1881 as Sabina J Davison aged 50 widow born at Winlaton living in Medomsley with two of her sons Matthew (Couper) and Martin (Beck). [7] Her sons were both working as coal miners. Joseph Beck was still alive.
As Sabinah J Davidson she married John Swalwell in 1883 the marriage being registered in Lanchester, Durham. [8] John died in 1888. In 1891 as Sabina J Swalwell aged 62 born Winlaton she was living at Tanfield with two boarders, Thomas Kirtley, coal miner, and his wife, Elizabeth. [9]
Sabina died in 1894 as Sabina Jane Swalwell, her death being registered at Lanchester. [10]
