Biography

Edmund Carr, a native of Maine, came to Seattle in 1854 via the Isthmus of Panama. He took up a claim on Salmon Bay, Ballard, was a volunteer in the Indian War of 1855 and in 1857 was a probate judge in Port Townsend. He married Olivia, daughter of Elizabeth Holgate. He was a member of the first board of regents of the University of Washington and King County School Superintendent 1861-75; he died in 1886. His obituary is dated 17 Nov 1886.[1]From a biography of his granddaughter Lillie May Reay, written by John Flood Conrad as part of his Colorful Lives collection of eulogies in the old Puget Sound Mail newspaper of La Conner, Skagit, Washington.[2]
