Biography

Walter Carr, Jr. was born about 1790 in Anne Arundel county, Maryland, a son of Walter Carr, 1760–1820 and Martha Ray, married July 23, 1783, in Anne Arudel county. [1]

On August 17, 1812, in Anne Arundel, Maryland, Walter married Mary Scrivener. [2] Mary's father, John Scrivener was born circa 1735, in Anne Arundel county, Maryland and during the American Revolutionary War, John signed the Oath of Fidelity to the newly formed United States of America. [3] John is honored by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A100790. DAR records indicate that John died before November 13, 1789, in Maryland and that his wife's name was Rebecca. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of their son, William Scrivener, who married Achsa Gaither and their daughter, Mary Scrivener, who married Walter Carr. [4]

Mary (Scrivener) Carr died circa 1829, in Anne Arundel county, Maryland. On May 18, 1837, in Anne Arundel county, Maryland, Walter married, secondly, Diana Knighton. [5] Walter and "Dinah A. Carr" are found on the United States Census of 1850, living in Anne Arundel county, Maryland with five children living in the household. At least one daughter, Mary Carr, is born prior to 26 years of age and is probably the daughter of his first wife. [6]
