Joanna was born around 1687 in Lisheenboy, Tipperary, Ireland. She was the daughter of Anthony Carroll of Lisheenboy and Elizabeth Carroll, (the sister of James Carroll of Ballycrenode). She had 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Two of her brothers and both of her sisters emigrated to Chesapeake as she did as well.

Some trees state that Joanna had a daughter Joanna Croxall who married Joshua Howard. However, Joshua Howard married Joanna O'Carroll, not Joanna Croxall, and she had a different date of birth and death.

O'Carroll-58 and Carroll-4017 represent the same person. Same father, same husband, same siblings, same biographical details. CORRECT LAST NAME AT BIRTH IS CARROLL. THE O' WAS DROPPED IN THE EARLY 1600'S BY HER GREAT GRANDFATHER.
Carroll-4017 and O'Carroll-58 appear to represent the same person because: Clear match although LNAB is incorrectly recorded as O'Carroll in duplicated profile and should be corrected to Carroll in merge. Same name, same father, same husband, same children, same married name, almost identical birth name.
Carroll-5411 and O Carroll-39 appear to represent the same person because: Clear match for all details. The name O Carroll is obsolete and incorrect and can be updated to Carroll via a merge.
O Carroll-39 and Carroll-4017 appear to represent the same person because: Clear match. Same person - same dates, same husband, same children, same bio. Name O Carroll is incorrect and error can be eliminated in a merge.
She was born in Ireland (her parents didn't leave Ireland) and died in Maryland/Baltimore according to 'Princes of Ireland Planters of Maryland, a Carroll Saga 1500 - 1872, by Ronald Hoffman, UNC Press, 2002.
O Carroll-39 and O'Carroll-36 appear to represent the same person because: These represent the same people. Croxall-2 needs merged with these 2 as well. I concur with the Baltimore death place. She is burial in the Howard Family Cemetery in Baltimore.
