Richard was born in 1825 and baptized on 22 June 1825 in Sologhead in County Tipperary, Ireland. Michael Burns and Honora Hugh were sponsors.[1] As of 1826, he was probably living in Ballinulty.[2]
He probably immigrated to the United States around 1851, and he was living in Torrington as of August 1851 when he declared his intent for citizenship.[3]
He became a citizen of the US in Litchfield while residing in Torrington in 1856, and was working as a lock manufacturer that same year.[4][5] As of 1860, he was living with his family in Torrington and working as a blacksmith.[6] As of 1870, he was working as a skate polisher, and his property was valued at $3,000.[7] As of 1880, he was working at the hardware works.[8]
Before moving to Migeon Avenue, the family lived in West Torrington in a little old brick homestead, which as of 1935 was still standing and owned by the family.[9]
Richard at one point was a burgess of the old borough of Torrington and a tax collector.[10]
Richard passed away on 17 July 1897 of chronic nephritis at his home on Migeon Avenue in Torrington[11] and was buried at Old Saint Francis Cemetery in Torrington.[12]
