The original surname of the Carroll family was "O'Carroll." They were of Irish descent, although the ancestry of the South Carolinian patriarch, William, is unknown.
The dates of birth and death for William Carroll and Mary Murphy differ from those on their gravestones at Union Cemetery in Dadeville, AL. William's says that he was born in 1801, and died on 24 Jan. 1870.
