Biography

Elizabeth was born about 1772. She shows up widowed in the 1840 census.[1]

In the 1850 census, her married name is misspelled, with no additional records located, yet.[2]

In Wake County, beginning with the 1850 census, a number of Slave Schedule returns are entered:[3]

Elizabeth Chamblee (60)
  1. 50 - female
  2. 60 - female
  3. 27 - female
  4. 23 - male
  5. 8 - male
  6. 8 - female
  7. 7 - female
  8. 5 - female
  9. 3 - male
  10. 1 - male

Elizabeth Chamblee's probate record might need further review.[4] From a preliminary review of the estate documents, it appears that Wright Strickland (her son-in-law) was made administrator, but he too possibly died (or merely was ordered to appear before the court for abuse of estate administration?) before the estate was settled. Subsequently, it looks as though Dr Micajah Perry became administrator, but the documents are poorly organized and unclear.
