William Carrell did not bear the middle initial M, nor is he identical with the man who died in 1828 in Tennessee. He was married in 1790 to Sarah Stephenson, daughter of Solomon Stephenson, Jr. and his wife Anna "Nancy" Johnson. He married secondly in 1797 to Piety Fluellin. William Carrell, Jr. was the son of William Carrell and his second wife Piety Fluellin. Census data suggests that the elder William Carrell had at least two daughters who could have been children by first wife Sarah Stephenson. His son Britton Stephenson might have been by first wife Sarah Stephenson, depending on which age given on various censuses that you chose to trust. The name Britton was used in the Stephenson family, so it is possible that he could have been Sarah's son. The four known sons of William Carrell were Britton Carrell (md. Elizabeth Austin), William Carrell, Jr. (md. Piety Hobby, 2md. Piety Powell), Seaborn Carrell (md. Nancy Ellen), and Labon Carrell (md. Levinia Johnson). Britton and Labon lived and died in Johnston County, NC. William Carrell, Jr. died in Wake County, NC. Seaborn Carrell migrated to Dale County, AL.[1]
Note
Sarah's maiden name is listed as Stevens not Stevenson on her marriage record and on her father-in-law's DAR record.
