Biography

Victor Carter (known as Jim in later life^[1]) was born on 4 June 1900,^[2] in Hythe, Kent.^[3] By 1901 his mother, Margaret Carter, was widowed and the family were living with her father, George Highwood.^[4] He married Marjorie Ransley in the third quarter of 1923, in the Elham district of Kent (which contains Hythe),^[5] and a child was born the following quarter.^[6] Marjorie died the next year, in the third quarter of 1924.^[2] He then married Doris Smith in the third quarter of 1930 in the New Forest registration district of Hampshire,^[5] and they had four children.^[1] In later life they lived in Springfield Avenue, Holbury, in the parish of Fawley, Hampshire. Jim died on 7 January 1985, and Doris died on 9 April 1985.^[7]
