Victor Carter (known as Jim in later life[1]) was born on 4 June 1900,[2] in Hythe, Kent.[3]
By 1901 his mother, Margaret Carter, was widowed and the family were living with her father, George Highwood.[4]
He married Marjorie Ransley in the third quarter of 1923, in the Elham district of Kent (which contains Hythe),[5] and a child was born the following quarter.[6] Marjorie died the next year, in the third quarter of 1924.[2]
He then married Doris Smith in the third quarter of 1930 in the New Forest registration district of Hampshire,[5] and they had four children.[1] In later life they lived in Springfield Avenue, Holbury, in the parish of Fawley, Hampshire. Jim died on 7 January 1985, and Doris died on 9 April 1985.[7]
