Biography

John was born in 1794. He is the son of Edward Carter and Mary Brown.

Bio from Find-a-Grave

John is seen living with his father and mother in the 1820 census. John married Lucinda in 1815 in Bumcombe Co. NC and had one child Theresa. In this census you can see that a female under 10 is present, it shows five people only, but in Aug their daughter Mary passed away. This shows that this census was taken after Mary was death as well. And also shows that John and Lucinda had all of their children born in Bumcombe Co. and not else where.
John and Lucinda in this 1830 census still in Bumcombe Co NC and here they seem to had a fourth female child, but they should had just three female children at this time, so the question is, who was she ?
John Carter came to this area from near by Madison Co. NC to buy some 640 1847 here in Unicoi Co. then Washington Co. Tennessee. John had another home in the Shelton Larual area, his wife ( Lucinda ) would continue living and pass away there. Dates here are provided by the so called Family Bible, started by their daughter Elizabeth we think, for the fact that she was the only one that could read and write.

The photo to the right is a receipt for Taxes owed by John. David Keith writes out this receipt. We have tax receipts for this land for the next 25 years that are strips of paper the has the amounts paid. This land is recorded with the county of Washinton as well.

The date of birth and death dates are recorded in the two pages from a family Bible that were passed down. These pages do not show where anyone was born or where they died. Only these two pages remain form a whole Bible.
Later James Carter son of John Carter takes control and paid off his siblings for the property . After James Carter's death in 1899, his children would sell the property in 1903, but keeps the Mineral Rights.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
