Biography

Jacob Carter, Sr. was born November 26, 1716, in Branford, Connecticut, where he was a Town Officer, at the time of the American Revolutionary War. Joseph signed the Oath of Fidelity to the newly formed United States, after the war was over. Jacob is honored for his Civil Service and Patriotic Service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A019941. DAR records indicate that Jacob died July 6, 1796, in Southington county, Connecticut and that his wife was Mary Barnes. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his son, Jacob Carter, Jr. who married Mary Hitchcock; Jonathan Carter, who married Abigail Moullthrop. [1]

Jacob's son, Jacob Carter, Jr. was a Private in the 13th Company of the 15th Regiment and is DAR Ancestor #A019942. His wife is Mary Hitchcock and his children include his sons, Gaius Carter, who married Hannah Perkins and Laommi Carter, who married Marcia Harrison. [2]

This Jacob Carter, known to DAR as "Sr." is actually the son of Jacob Carter who married Dorcas Tyler on 4 Dec 1712 at Branford in New Haven, Connecticut.[3] [4]

Jacob's wife has a Find A Grave memorial, giving her ate of birth as October 22,1726, a daughter of Stepehn Barnes (1705-1777) and Martha Wheadon (1707-1773) of Branford, New Haven County, Connecticut and her death as October 23, 1788, in Southington, Hartford County, Connecticut. Their children were: Jacob, b. May 1745; Sarah, b. Sept. 16, 1747; Stephen, b. July 11, 1749; Jonathan, b. May 20, 1751; Ithiel, b. August 1753; Isaac, b. May 12, 1757; Levi, b. September 23, 1762; Elihu, baptized March 18, 1759. All settled in Wolcott, CT (which adjoins Southington), except the youngest, who remained in Southington. [5]

It looks Like the death date for Jacob Carter may be a typo. He could not have died in 1700 if he married in 1712 and had a son in 1718. When you have a spare moment, could you take a look? Thanks!
Jonathan Carter, who married Abigail Moulthrop is the son of Jacob Carter and Mary Barnes: https://services.dar.org/public/dar_research/search_adb/?action=full&p_id=A019941
