Biography
Hannah Dortha Cope was born April 25, 1724, in Bradford Township, Chester county, Pennsylvania, a daughter of John Cope and Charity Jefferis, married November 30, 1721, in East Bradford, Pennsylvania. On February 10, 1746, in Naaman Creek, Chester county, Pennsylvania, Hannah married John Carter. Children of Hannah and John include:
- Jane Carter, born October 30, 1757, died November 10, 1822, married James Painter on May 9, 1771
- Samuel Carter, born December 3, 1749, died February 29, 1836, married 1) Sarah Sidwell on December 1, 1773 and Ruth Taylor on September 6, 1781
- James Carter, born October 20, 1751 in Chester county, Pennsylvania [1] died 1795, married Ann Sharples on January 17, 1782
- Hannah Carter, born January 29, 1754, died March 4, 1851, married John Forsythe, on April 12, 1781
- John Carter, born November 1, 1755, died September 5, 1805, married 1) Hannah Stump and 2) Rebecca Harlan on June 14, 1798
- Enos Carter, born March 19, 1758, in Chester county, Pennsylvania [2] died January 30, 1760
Hannah died January 10, 1817, in Chester county, Pennsylvania.
Researchers Notes
Hannah's middle name is NOT Dorcas. There was a Dorcas who married John CARDER, whose Will dated May 14, 1809 left Docas as his Executrix. "This Dorcas has been attached to John Carter in several peoples postings." [3]
