Biography

Elvira Carter was born 22 February 1818 in Lenoir City, Roane County(now Loudon Co), Tennessee. [1] She was a child of John P. Carter Sr. and Jane McCarrell. She married George Washington Lower 17 November 1836 in Roane County, Tennessee. [2] [3] [4] [5] She passed away 22 January 1897 in Polk, Polk County, Missouri. She was interred in Goff Cemetery, Bolivar, Polk County, Missouri. [1]

  • Carter, Elvira. The following information was taken from a letter dated October 14, 1979 from Melvin Gene Carter (b. July 30, 1932).
Elvira moved to Morgan County, Illinois, in 1851. Her husband, George W. Lower was killed there in a farm accident. She then moved to Polk County, Missouri. Some of here descendants remain in the Fair Play, Missouri today.
