John Thomas and Jane (Thompson) Carter and their three sons, of Skelton, Yorks., settled at Westmoreland Point.22 Their names do not appear in the surviving passenger lists for the period 1772-1775. This may imply that they were on a ship such as The Duke of York, for which there is no list, or that they arrived before 1772 or after 1775.

John Thomas Carter
John was born c. 1724 in Yorkshire, England.[1]
John married August 18, 1763 in Skelton, Cleveland, North Yorkshire, England to Jane Thompson, daughter of John Thompson and Mary Sunley.[1] He died in 1778, and Jane married, as he 2nd, and as his 2nd, to William Chapman, of Point de Bute.
They settled near Fort Cumberland, and had a family of three sons, Thomas, Christopher and John. Thomas married Miss Siddall and settled first at Westcock, Sackville Parish, but afterwards moved to Dorchester. Christopher married a Miss Roberts and settled at Westmoreland Point, near his father. John married Miss Anne Lowerison and remained on the homestead. The three brothers all had large families, the boys outnumbering the girls, which is the reason, no doubt, that the Carter name is more in evidence in the district than any other Yorkshire name.
John immigrated to Nova Scotia, Canada in 1774.[1]
John died May 02, 1778 in Missaquash River at Nova Scotia, Canada.[1] He drowned while was drowned trying to ford the Missiquash River while on his way home from Amherst.[1]
