Biography

An Elijah S. Carter is listed as a good school teacher in the History of Bartholomew Co., IN in Nineveh Township in 1888.[1]

The Columbus circuit was formed at the annual conference of 1827, and gthe first quarterly conference was held at Edinburg. Constant B. Jones was preacher in charge. J. Pownall, J. Richey, J. McQueen, and A. Phelps were local preachers; P. Gifford, Thomas Done, J. McEwen and Elijah Carter; exhorters; George Barrett, Isaiah Livingstone and L. Parrish, leaders. [2]

Elijah Carter was the first class leader of the Carter's chapel M.E. for 30 years. For many years this church was attached to the Columbus circuit, and afterward to the Taylorsville circuit. same source as above.[3]
