Henry Carter was born June 25, 1752, in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Henry enlisted as a Private in Captain Stubblefield's Company of the 5th Regiment raised on December 28, 1775, at Richmond, Virginia, for service with the U.S. Continental Army. The regiment saw action at the Battle of Trenton, Battle of Princeton, Battle of Brandywine, Battle of Germantown, Battle of Monmouth and the Siege of Charleston. Henry achieved the rank of Corporal, during his time in the military. [1]
Corporal Henry Carter is honored by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A019932. DAR Records indicate that Henry died June 8, 1835, in Barren county, Kentucky and that his wife's name was Frances (maiden name not given). Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his son, George Carter, who married Anna Dodd; and William Carter, who married Mary "Polly" Dodd; and of his daughter, Polly Carter, who married Peter Threlkel. Henry Carter wrote his Will on June 14, 1823 and it was probated at the January Term, 1825. Henry names his wife, Francis Carter, sons, George and William Carter, Son-in-law William Pullim and daughter Polly Threlkill.
