"It was about 1852, that the newly opened territory in Iowa was advertised for settlement. Robert and Sarah sold ther holdings in Illinois and joined a caravan of covered wagons going west to settle in the new territory. William Dyer and Elizabeth Cartwright Dyer were in the same caravan and settled in Worth township, Boone County, Iowa in November of 1853. Elizabeth Cartwright Dyer was an older half sister of Robert Newton Cartwright. Robert and Sarah first settled on 40 acres at the edge of the timberland along the Des Moines River Valley. ... It is recorded in Boone County, an original entry, dated 26 Nov. 1853, wherein the State of Iowa conveyed to Robert Newton Cartwright, 160 acres in section 23 of Worth township. ... Robert and Sarah remained on the farm until 1911."
