Joseph (Bettison) Cartwright was born in Leicestershire, England.

Joseph Bettison, later Cartwright, born in 1868 in Hugglescote, Leicestershire, England was the son of Rose Bettison and probably Emanuel Cartwright. Emanuel Cartwright (known as Manley) married Rose, his housekeeper, in 1876 and Samuel later became a Cartwright. ^[1][2][3]

By 1881, Joseph and his brother, Emmanuel had taken their father's surname and his parents had two more children, Annie (6) and William (4) as well as as William Loftage, a 3 year old visitor, in the household in Hugglescote And Donington, Leicestershire. ^[5].

Joseph Cartwright was married to Louisa Burton in Q2 of 1889. ^[6]

They had the following children: Alfred, Agnes, Annie, Lizzie and Samuel, all born in Donington Le Heath, Leicestershire. ^[7][8]

Joseph Cartwright of 57 Ibstock Road, Ellistown, Leicestershire died in 1950, age 82 years and was buried in Hugglescote. ^[9][10]
