Aliff and Will Ivy lived next door to Aliff Parents, Thomas Albert Carwright, and Emma Helen Bandy. They all had such beautiful gardens. Aliff, had a nice porch on the back of the house, which Will turned into a green house for her. She grew African Violets in there. Azaleas and Camelia's surrounded the house. Blooms were magnifiscent and very large.
Aliff always had song birds that she kept in the living room of their little white house on the corner. I think their dogs name was Fritz. We always enjoyed going there for visits. We always came home with a large boquet of flowers from their garden. Wrapped in a wet newpaper and covered with aluminum foil, to make the trip back home to Fresno.
Aliff was hard of hearing, and she had been for such a long time, that the noise bothered her. She kept her hearing aids turned down very low. She still could not hear our little high pitched voices. We had to raise our voice to speak to her. Which of course to me felt like we were yelling at her, and by all means went against everything we had been taught.
SANGER-Graveside services for Aliff Elizabeth Ivy of Sanger were held Dec. 28 at West Selma Cemetery. Mrs. Ivy died Dec. 24 at the age of 95. She was a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, Cecile Williams of Sanger: a sister, Bea Schwimley of Van Nuys; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
