Biography

Richard Cartwright son of Robert was christened in Nantwich, Cheshire, on 2 February 1741/42.^[1]

His first wife Sarah (surname unknown) was the mother of Anne, Elizabeth and Richard Astill Cartwright.

Richard Cartwright, widower aged 30, of the parish of St Michael, Derby, glass pincher, married Mary Prince, widow aged 25, of the parish of St Werburgh, Derby, at St Werburgh's church by licence on 10 September 1771. Sponsor was Thomas Hollines of Ashbourne, carrier.^[2]

He married Ann Yeates, spinster, at St Peter's, Derby, by licence on 12 October 1779.^[3]

Richard Cartwright, innholder of Derby, made a will on 14 November 1795 naming his wife Ann and his children Richard Cartwright, Ann wife of James Woolford, Elizabeth Cartwright, Sarah Cartwright and Charlotte Cartwright. The will was proved at Derby on 24 April 1798.^[4]
