Biography

Phoebe Catherine Carver was born May 24, 1842 in Indiana, the daughter of Pleasant Carver and Mahalah Bodenhammer.

In the 1850 Dallas, Missouri census Phoebe was incorrectly enumerated as "Frances" and both her mother and sister named "Mahala" were incorrectly enumerated as "Mary".^[1]

Phebe married Tracy Riggs on July 1, 1860 in Mahaska, Iowa, United States.^[2]

In the 1860 census Pheby[SIC] was married to Tracy Riggs. They were living in Union Township, Mahaska, Iowa..^[3]

In the 1870 census Phebe and Tracy were in Pleasant Grove Township, Mahaska, Iowa. Phoebe's younger sister Mahala was living with them.^[4]

In the 1880 census Phebe and Tracey Riggs were still living in Pleasant Grove Township, Mahaska, Iowa, United States. The census shows Phoebe's father was born in Kentucky and her mother was born in North Carolina. The census this years asks about the health of each person and on the for Phoebe sit ays, "sick chills". ^[5]

In the 1895 census Phebe (52) and Tracey (58) were still in Mahaska, Iowa. Their sons Horace (28), Howard (26) and Walter (20) were the only children left living in their home.^[6]

In the 1900 census Phebe, Tracy and their son Howard were still living in Pleasant Grove Township, Mahaska, Iowa.^[7]
