  • Glasgow Times Issue of January 11 1916 - Former Railton Citizen Dies in Texas Home -

Mr. Tom William Carver who was born near Lafayette, Tenn., August 15, 1831, died at the home of his son, George F. Carver at Canadian, Texas, December 20, 1915, having lived for more than eighty-four years. He removed from Tennessee to Barren County, Ky., forty-eight years ago, and had made his home at Railton for almost the whole of that time. Nearly three years ago he went to the home of his son, George, at Canadian, with whom he has lived since.

Mr. Carver was married only once, with his wife preceding him some thirteen years ago after a wedded life of more than fifty years, she living to celebrate with her husband their golden anniversary. To the union there were born ten children, seven of whom still live: Charley M. Carver, Railton, Ky.; Washington Carver, Railton, Ky.; B. E. Carver, Railton, Ky.; Joseph Carver, Glazier, Texas; Allen G. Carver, Durham, Okla.; Mrs. Kittie Harvey of Indianapolis, Ind.

The remains were accompanied here from Texas by George F. Carver and one grandson, Thomas William Carver; they were then carried to the old home at Railton where they rested for a few hours under the roof that furnished him shelter for so many years, and then after a short service by Rev. Jno. A. Troxler, of this place, were laid to rest beside the remains of his wife in the Littrell graveyard near the old home.

Mr. Carver was a member of the General Baptist church at Shiloh and through these declining years of his life had not transferred his membership but left it with the congregation with which he held membership for more than sixty years.

The esteem with which he was held by his old neighbors and friends was beautifully shown by the number that gathered both at the old home and also at the grave to pay the last tribute to their former neighbor and friend. The sorrowing family have the sympathy of this host of friends who feel from them as they walk through the valley of sorrow. Smith Grove Times
