Biography

Rebecca was born in 1730, daughter of Miles Cary (of "Pear Tree Hall") and Hannah Armistead She passed away in 1785.

Children of Rev. Miles and Rebecca (Cary) Selden:

  1. Joseph, Lieut, of the State Line, 1776-83, Jus tice of Henry County in 1799, delegate in 1804-6; died without issue, January 1, 1807.
  2. Mary, married Rose.
  3. Miles Cary, married Elizabeth Armistead.
  4. Hannah, married Colonel William Hartwell, Macon.
  5. Rebecca, married Thomas Watkins.
  6. Nathaniel, married Mary Woodson,
  7. Elizabeth, married Hunter.[1]

Joseph Selden (son of Samuel Selden and Rebecca Yoe) born in England, came to Elizabeth City County, Virginia, with his father; died in 1727; owned "Buckroe", in Hampton County, VA; built "Salvington" in Stafford County, VA; was Justice of Elizabeth City County, in 1723, and later commissioned Sheriff in 1725;
Married Mary Cary, born 1704; died 1775; daughter of Miles Cary and Mary Wilson
Son: Wilson Cary b 1723 died 179_; married Elizabeth Jennings of the West Indies
Son: Captain Samuel Cary, b 1725, who was a Captain in the Revolutionary Army; married 1) Mary Thomson Mason, daughter of George Mason and Ann Stevens Thomson; md 2) Sarah Ann Mason Mercer, b 25th June 1738; duaghter of Judge John Mercer of "Marlborough".
Son: Rev Miles Cary, b 1726; d 20th March 1785; md his cousin Rebecca Cary, daughter of Miles Cary (of "Pear Tree Hall") and Hannah Armistead; He was Rector of Henrico Parish from 1756-1776.
