Emanuela Cascio is born and baptized on 15 March 1827, named after her paternal grandmother. She is the daughter of Stefano Cascio, a farmer, and his wife, Carmela Streva. Her godparents are Marco and Gioachina Maggiore, a married couple.[1]
Emmanuela marries Vincenzo Maida, a soldier (soldato della Compagnia d'armi), on 21 January 1849.[2] Her parents are living.
Emanuela and Vincenzo have at least eight children together: Giuseppe (1850), Gaetana (1852), Maria Carmela (1855), two sons named Stefano (1854 and 1857), two daughters named Maria Grazia (1860 and 1866), and Salvatore (1863).
Giuseppe is born 6 January 1850 in his parents' home in via S. Nicolo', Corleone, and named after his paternal grandfather. Vincenzo, age 35 (b. 1814), reports Emanuela's age as 22 (b. 1827).
Gaetana is born on 23 July 1852 at the same address and named after her paternal grandmother. According to the midwife, Francesca Paola de Luca, age 48, Emanuela is 26: four years older than when Giuseppe is born, two and a half years previous. She also reports that Vincenzo is still 35.
The first son named Stefano, after his maternal grandfather, is born and baptized Stephanum on 1 May 1854. His godparents are Carmelo Ducibella and Lucia Liggio.
He dies on 9 August 1854 at three months of age.
Vincenzo and Emanuela stand as godparents to Lucia Ligotino on 3 May 1855, the daughter of Vincenzo Ligotino and Carmela Cascio. Lucia's cousin, Calogera Marino, is the daughter of Lucia's paternal aunt and namesake, Lucia. Calogera is married to Emanuela's brother, Francesco.
Maria Carmela is born and baptized Mariam Carmelam on 21 August 1855. Her godparents are Vincenzo Pulizzi and Maria Casanzaro.
Emanuela's father, Stefano, dies sometime before 1856.
The second Stefano is born and baptized Stephanum on 6 October 1857. His godparents are Paolino Coniglio and Carmela Sabella.
The first Maria Grazia is born and baptized Mariam Gratia on 26 December 1860. Her godparents are Gaetana Maida and Giuseppe, brother and sister.
She dies on 9 July 1862 at a year and a half of age.
Salvatore is born at 6AM and baptized Salvatorem on 7 June 1863. His godparents are the same as his sister's, born in 1860.
The second daughter named Maria Grazia is born and baptized on 12 October 1866 as Mariam Gratiam. Her godparents are her own brother and sister, Stephanus (1857) and (Maria) Carmela (1855).
Gaetana marries Onofrio di Giglia on 7 November 1871.
Vincenzo dies at age 60 (b. 1812) on 31 August 1872. Emanuela survives him.
Emanuela's daughter, Carmela, marries Calogero di Giglia on 7 June 1873. Emanuela is still living.
Emanuela's mother, Carmela, dies at age 81 (b. 1796) on 22 June 1877.
Giuseppe marries Maria Antonia Palazzo on 19 November 1884, at age 34.
The surviving Maria Grazia marries Vincenzo Terranova on 16 February 1895.
Salvatore marries in New York in 1898.
On the Sicilia departing Napoli on 20 November 1901 and arriving in the port of New York on 3 December 1901:
29. Stefano Maida, 44 (b. 1857), single, countryman, last resided in Corleone. They are bound for his brother, her son, Salvatore Maida at 243 E 124th St.
30. Emanuela Cascio, 74 (b. 1827), widow, last resided in Corleone.[3]
