Yes indeed there is a lot of information still to be added to the "master profiles". We are still in the process of collating facts and you at times will see mistakes. Important is not to just 'force' data or disconnect and re-connect profiles - everything has to be done in agreement with the other active contributors. Basically the first goal of this project is to find the exact spelling of the LNAB (Last Name at Baptism) and upload the validation (transcription and / or photograph) so that the profile could be edited into that name and be protected. That and the exact connections to the parents if possible [therefore their LNsAB should also be validated through research]. This is important because we do not as yet create narrative (if there is narrative it always has a source); narrative (altough you'll find it as well) follows the facts. We try and source and cite all facts as best we can. In the Project homepage > Goals & Process section there is a description of the proces.
Adding info from GEDCOM into pre-1800 profiles is a tricky endeavour. There is something to be said for manual addition of information. I personally have never made one GEDCOM (besides for DNA purposes).
For better information on GEDCOM I refer you to this page (incl. video).
For now success, Philip
I'm the research coordinator of the Dutch Cape of Good Hope Colony (1652-1806) Project. I see that you have been creating duplicates. And then matching the proposed merges. Such as the merge of Charl Johannes Eloff b1 (1775 - 1860) into Charl Johannes Eloff (bef. 1775 - abt. 1860) which is a validated and protected profile.
I re-proposed the merge; not merging a clear duplicate is not an option within WikiTree, as we strive to have one collaborative family tree. See Duplicates. 1 tip on how to avoid duplicates when searching, is to search on the surname [socalled LNAB] only, and then sort on birth [oldest to the top], dense version [to the right of the screen]. This way you'll find more than 100 hits. If you search only on first names or in combination of first and surnames, you'll only see the first 100 results being presented where there might be a few hundred or perhaps a few thousand.
If you need any help, please feel free to contact me.
Thanks,
Philip
