Biography

On the 1776 St. John's, Prince George's, Maryland census: Owen Athey, age 40; males 13, 11, 5, 5, 1, 2. Lucy Athey, age 36; females 22, 12, 7, 1.

Edmund III The only documented son of Edmund II was Edmund III who was probably born about 1716 in Prince George’s County, Maryland after his father settled there and married as a very young man. Referred to as Edmund, Jr. in the deed of sale from father to son on November 29,1742 when Edmond Casteel, Sr. (planter) sold to Edmond Casteel, Jr., 100 acres of land called Casteel on a draft of the Piscataway about two miles above Darnall’s Mill Dam for 390 lbs of tobacco. The original tract was granted to Edmond Casteel Sr. on October 12, 1713 and included 300 acres. Witnesses included Thomas Owen and Thomas Hawkins Jr. Apparently Edmund III lived his entire life on his plantation called Casteel, which he acquired from his father. Edmund III died between April 7, 1772 and March 24, 1773 when his will was proved. (See the will of Edmund III on the next Although, there were possibly many others, the only presently proven great-grandchildren of Capt.
