Biography

Birth and Parents

Infanta doña Sancha de Castilla y León (b. 1100/16 Mar 1104 - d. after 10 May 1125).[1]

Cawley observefs that the Chronicon Regum Legionensium names "Sancha the wife of count Rodrigo and Elvira who married Duke Roger of Sicily" as the daughters of King Alfonso and his fourth "legitimate wife…Elisabeth"[563]. Both daughters are named in a charter dated 16 Mar 1104[564]. [1]

Cawley notes, however, that "in view of the dates of their marriages, it is unlikely that they were born much before this date. This suggests that their mother may have been King Alfonso's fifth wife, formerly known by her Muslim name Zaïda, although if their estimated birth dates are correct there would have been an interval of several years between their births and the birth of their older brother Sancho, which seems surprising." [1]

Marriage

She married (1120 or 1122) Rodrigo Gonzales de Lara, Señor de Lara y Liébana. [2]

Should be mentioned in research Notes: Sancha, Infanta of Castile was the mother of Rodrigo de Lara according to Harold Brooks-Baker's unproven 1986 claim that Queen Elizabeth II is descended from Prophet Muhammad.

Hi Philip

I can't open the link for some reason but I am aware of the purported genealogy, and it is definitely unproven. It is based often on older unreliable sources, and connections not supported by primary sources.

It might be worth adding a Research Note to some profiles, but it will be to say that the genealogy should not be added to WikiTree as there is no proof at all.
