Before 1867, see Haldimand County, Canada West.
Haldimand_County was formed from part of the land grant to the Six Nations in 1783. It became a county in 1800 and opened for settlement in 1832.
Part of the Six Nations Reserve is within the geographic area of Haldimand County, but is independent of the county.
On April 1, 1974, this county was dissolved and along with Norfolk County became part of the Regional Municipality of Haldimand-Norfolk. In 2001 the municipality was dissolved and the former counties re-instated as separate municipalities of Haldimand County and Norfolk County.
