Joy was the child of Wilfred Cave and Janet McFadyen. Joy passed away before 2015.

From MyHeritage Family Trees: Joy Irene Agnes Dyas (born Cave) was born in 5 Jun 1932, to father Wilfred Vere Cave, who died 6 Feb 1955, and was buried in Palmerston North. Her father, Wilfred was born 25 Feb 1911, in Martinborough, Wairarapa, New Zealand. Her mother was Janet McFadyen (Nettie) Wilson, who was born 21 Jan 1912 in Troon, Ayrshire, Scotland. Her sister was Pam Cave, who was North Island Women's Champion 1952-3 - Track And Field - 100 Yard Dash - Long And High Jump.

Joy had two marriages. She married Stan Dyas in 1950, at age 17. Stan was born circa 1924, in Manawatu, New Zealand. Joy secondly married Les Stringer, who died in 2004.
