Biography
Richard Frank "Dick" Celeste was born on November 11th, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the son of Frank P. Celeste and Margaret "Peg" Louis. His father was born in Italy but immigrated to the United States as an infant. His father was the mayor of Lakewood, Ohio from 1955 to 1963.[1]
Dick graduated from Yale University and then studied at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. He began a career in politics in 1970 when he ran to be a Representative in the Ohio House of Representatives. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Highlights of his career include:[2][3]
- Member of Ohio House of Representatives, 1971-1974
- 64th Governor of Ohio, 1983-1991
- US Ambassador to India, 1997-2001
- President of Colorado College, 2002-2011
Dick has been married twice and has seven children.[3]
