The son of David Chadwick and Sarah (Brooks) Chadwick. born in January 25, 1823, Ohio.

He married Catherine Sarilda Bishop, November 16, 1862. She was the daughter of Nathaniel Bishop and Rebecca Rawlings , Ben and Catherine (Sarilda) had five children.

Based on the "Married Widows Pension Records," we can see Ben served in the Illinois Company 131 Infantry during the Civil War. [1]

He first married Anna M. Madden, November 16, 1852. Born in Indiana, 1833, she died in 1860, in Massac County, Illinois, at the young age of 27. [2] Her parents were Littlebusy Madden and Sarah Madden. Ben and Anna had two daughters before she died, Lenna A. Chadwick, born 1858 and Anna M. Chadwick, born 1860.

After Anna passed away, he married Catherine Sarilda Bishop in 1862. She was 20 years younger than Ben. The US Census for 1880 [3] shows Frank Cavanah living with the family and he soon after was married to Laura Ellen Chadwick.

Moves

All of the children were born in Massac County Illinois, except for Frank. He was born in Ohio, his father's home state. Census records show Ben and Catherine married and lived in Massac County Illinois, until 1872 when they went to Ohio for a spell. That's where Frank was born.

By 1880 they then moved to Mussel Fork, Chariton, Missouri, where Ben is listed as a farmer. [4]

Cause of Death

Looking at that same 1880 Census, we have a clue to his cause of death. He was afflicted with Bilious Fever. In 1783 Bilious Disorder was fatal & thought to be similar to Dysentery. The outbreak in Delaware killed many people. The disease is characterized or affected by disordered liver function and especially excessive secretion of bile.

He passed July 9, 1880, at 53 yrs old, in Keytesville, Chariton County Missouri, USA.[5]

Most of the family are buried at Corinth Cemetery in Mussel Fork Township, Chariton County, Missouri, USA.[5] Daughter Anna Chadwick Patnott is buried at Keytesville City Cemetery in Keytesville Township, Missouri. [6]
