Amelia was born the daughter of Thomas Chadwick and Margaret Brierley in 1893 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.^[1][2]

In the 1901 census she and her family are recorded living at 18, Owen Street, Stretford, Old Trafford, Manchester, Lancashire, England. ^[3] With her on the census were: her father Thomas Chadwick aged 42; her mother Margaret Chadwick aged 39; she aged 8; her brother, Thomas aged 12; brother, James aged 10; brother, Frederick aged 4; and also her brother, Frank aged 2.

In the 1911 Census for England she, listed as Amelia Chadwick aged 18, is listed in the household of her father, Thomas Chadwick. The family are residing in Stretford, Manchester, Lancashire, England.^[4] With her on the census were; her father Thomas aged 52; her mother Margaret, aged 49; listed as a brother, Thomas, aged 22; brother, James, aged 20; brother, Frederick, aged 14; brother, Frank, aged 12; and sister Edith, aged 6.^[5]
