Christopher Chaffin enlisted in 1776 in Prince Edward County, Virginia. He was discharged in February 1778 at Valley Forge.[1]
Christopher married Maryann (or Mary Ann) Vawter on 22 August 1778 in Powhatan County, Virginia. They were married by the Rev. John Hyde Sanders. Their daughter Tabitha was born 22 November 1779. In 1833, they were living in Tazewll County. They moved "many years after their marriage... to the western part of Virginia". Christopher died 10 October 1836. Maryann, born July 1761, was "of Felicity in Clermont County, Ohio" as of May 1841 and was living as of 10 April 1843.[1]
Tabitha in 1841 (1843?) was called "Tabitha Harvey".[1] She first married Fountain Young in 1798 (he died c1817).[2]
Locations: Tazewell County created in 1799. Cumberland County created in 1749 from Goochland County & is just north of Prince Edward County. Tazewell is quite a bit west of Cumberland County.[4]
Death: Maryann's testimony says "they" moved "to the western part of Virginia", but that might have meant Tazewell County, not Ohio (where she was in 1741). DAR shows his death in Tazewell County.[2]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Christopher by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Christopher:
Chaffins-42 and Chafin-48 appear to represent the same person because: Clear Duplicate: The different spellings of the LNAB is due to the sources using both variations.
Chafin-48 has been removed from father Chaffin-164. John Chaffin-164 did not have three sons named Christopher. This one does not fit with locations for the family in the time frame of when he was born. If anyone thinks this is wrong please contact me and let's work to figure this out.
