There is some confusion about when Lucy was born. When the birth records of Petersham were transcribed in 1904, there were five children listed for Samuel and Lucy Chamberlain born between 1745-1755, unfortunately the page listing their names was torn. Lucy has been placed as the third child in this list based on the age of 16 listed for her on a guardianship record dated November 1767 relative to the estate of her father. [1]
The marriage record of Lucy Chamberlain and Elijah Wilson is also in the Petersham vital records and dated Nov. 6, 1768.
Further proof that Lucy Wilson was the daughter of Samuel and Lydia Chamberlain comes from two deeds recorded in the Petersham land records. On Sept. 25, 1770 Elijah Wilson of Petersham, husbandman, and his wife Lucy, sold nine acres and 96 rods of land in Petersham which was part of the estate of Samuel Chamberlain to Samuel Chambelain of Petersham.[2] Later, in 1796 Elijah Wilson of Norwich, Mass., yeoman sold his right to any lands lying in the town of Petersham which formerly belonged to the estate of Samuel Chamberlain to Symonds Wilson of Norwich. [3] This last deed also proves that Elijah Wilson of Petersham and Elijah Wilson of Norwich are the same person.
