Joshua L. Chamberlain was born on September 24, 1800 in Orrington, Penobscot County, Massachusetts (District of Maine), son of Joshua Chamberlain (1770–1857) and Ann Gould (~1765–1833).[1]
Descendant of Ebenezer Chamberlain (bef.1729-aft.1790), a Revolutionary War Patriot.
Descendant of Zaccheus Gould (abt.1589-abt.1670)
, who migrated to New England during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640)..
Joshua (27) married Sarah Dupee Brastow (24) (born on August 22, 1803; daughter of Billings Brastow and Lydia (Dupee) Brastow) on November 4, 1827 in Brewer, Penobscot, Maine.[2] Their children were:
- Lawrence Joshua Chamberlain (1828–1914)
- Horace Beriah Chamberlain (1834–1861)
- Sarah Barstow Chamberlain (1836–1921)
- John Calhoun Chamberlain (1838–1867)
- Thomas Davee Chamberlain (1841–1896)
Joshua died in 1880 in Brewer, Penobscot County, Maine, United States, aged 79.[1]
