Biography

Elmer Chamberlain, age 70, of Pequot Lakes, died Saturday, April 24, at St. Joseph?s Medical Center in Brainerd. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 28, 11 AM, at Our Savior?s Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes, with Reverend David Stevens officiating. Friends may visit Tuesday, April 27, 5-7 PM, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake, and at the church one hour prior to services. Interment will be at the City of Jenkins Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake. Elmer LeRoy Chamberlain was born October 31, 1933 in Mitchell, South Dakota, to Charley and Fannie (McMahill) Chamberlain. He moved with his family to Pine River at a young age, and grew up there, graduating from Pine River High School in 1951. After graduation he worked on his parents? farm. He was united in marriage to Marlene Walton on July 9, 1955, in Pine River. The couple moved to Iowa, where Elmer worked in a packing house, and then to Minneapolis, where he worked on the docks of Advanced United Transport. He became employed by Kottke Bus in Anoka, where he worked as a driver, mechanic, and shop foreman. In 1980 Elmer and Marlene moved to Pequot Lakes, where they owned and operated an ice company. He became Transportation Manager for the Pequot Lakes school system n 1986, and also worked part-time as an EMT for North Ambulance. He retired from the school in 1998 and worked full-time for the ambulance until health issues forced his retirement in 2000. Elmer was a gentle, happy man with a warm sense of humor that made others comfortable. He had volunteered as a Boy Scout leader, a youth firearms safety instructor, and a First Responder.

Elmer is sadly missed by Marlene, his wife of 48 years; a daughter, Wanda (Ken) Moos, of Anoka; two sons, Wayne and Scott Chamberlain, both of Pequot Lakes; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Kuchenheister; two brothers, Calvin Chamberlain, of Mayville, ND, and Fred Chamberlain, of Pine River, seven grandchildren, Mike, Chrissy, Sara, Angela, Jeremy, Katie, and Tracey, and one great-grandchild, Ramsey. His parents and two sister, Agnes and Doris, preceded Elmer in death.
