We know from firsthand information that after his wife, "ouma Bellie" died in 1918 in the great influenza plague, Callie was left with six minors to look after. The children were all adopted by different families, with one, Jacoba Louisa, adopted by the Beukes family of Klipheuwel, Caledon. [1]
The photo on the right was taken around 1934, with the earlier photo of "ouma Bellie (d. 1918)" pasted in.
Henry James died on 23 Jan 1936 in Caledon aged 50. He is buried in N G Kerk Cemetery, Caledon.

Callie was born 13 June 1885 at Caledon to parents John Irish Champion and Jacoba Louisa Theron.
Baptised 2 August 1885 as witnessed by Henry Benjamin Champion and Hendricka Theron.[2]
