Biography

Timothy Chandler was born on 29 Mar 1694/5, at Andover in the Province of Massachusetts Bay. He was the son of Thomas Chandler II and Mary Peters.[1]

Timothy married Hephzibah on 2 Nov 1724, at Andover.[2]

Timothy died at Andover about 1771 when his estate entered probate (probate 2 December 1771). His will mentions his son-in-law Benjamin Ames in his will. He also mentions two granddaughters (Hepzibah and Hannah) that would have been the children of his daughter Hepzibah Ames who had died in 1768. Also mentioned are grandsons Benjamin and Timothy Ames. He also mentions his wife's daughter from her first marriage (Abiel Chandler). The daughter is called "Abial" in the will. (Abial Chandler married David Chandler in Andover in 1731.) The bulk of his real property is given to his son-in-law Benjamin Ames, so apparently Timothy had no living sons at the time of his death.[3]

Research Notes

Note: The transcript of the records at Andover give Hephzibah's surname as "Chandler." This may be a clerical error. There is no Hephzibah Chandler born at Andover in the proper time frame to be the wife of Timothy.

Note: The date of death given in this profile (17 Mar 1783) is the same date as that given in the collection of vital records for Andover for his wife, Hephzibah, who is there described as Timothy's widow, 94 years and 6 months old at her death.[4] That same collection does not have an entry for Timothy's death.

Chandler-2181 and Chandler-3265 appear to represent the same person because: I created a profile for this individual automatically by uploading my gedcom. They appear to have the same birthdate, same parents (although it didn't connect Chandler-3265 to his parents) etc. I have also found reference to the family at: "The Chandler Family. The Descendants of William And Annis Chandler Who Settled In Roxbury, Mass. 1637", collected by George Chandler, of Worcester, Mass. 1888. Published by Press of Charles Hamilton, 311 Main Street, Worcester, Mass. p. 29, Children of Thomas and Mary (Peters) Chandler. Found at: Boston Public Library, call number 1113224.
