GEORGE CHANDLER, JR. (>1766-1819)

George Chandler, Jr. was born after 1766, likely in Darlington District, SC, the son of George Chandler (ca. 1726-<1797) and Letitia MNU Chandler (ca. 1745->11 November 1799). He moved into Sumter District, SC with his family while young. It is likely that he inherited land from his father George Chandler in “the fork of Black River” as well as on the west side of Rocky Bluff Swamp in Sumter District. He may have purchased some land in that area as well. It is probable that he did not marry until ca. 1798 when he was wed to Margaret Hawthorn (1783->1850), daughter of Samuel and Jane Hawthorn of the Muddy Creek community of northeast Williamsburg County, SC. He and Margaret were the parents of five children:

1. Sarah Chandler (1800-1834), wife of William Pringle III, eleven children: William George?, Edwin Decatur, James M., Robert Marion, Washington H., Margaret Elizabeth, Mary S., Sarah, John, Calvin Pringle, and Arthur Pringle;

2. Samuel James Chandler (1802-1867) who married Nancy Fisher Gordon (1800-1863), daughter of Charles Fisher Gordon (ca. 1756-1822); they had one child, a son: Andrew James Chandler (1823-1886) who married Mary Jane Stuart (1828-1878), daughter of John Stuart, Jr. (1792-~1832) and Mary Elizabeth McElveen (~1800->1850), and had the following children: Emma Watson, Louisa Gordon, Mary Stuart, Andrew Watson, Edwin Girardeau, Robert James, Dora Virginia, John Henry Long, and Margaret Elizabeth Chandler;

3. Susannah Jane Chandler (ca. 1804-ca. 1824), first wife of John Fisher Gordon (1794- ? ), son of Charles Fisher Gordon (ca. 1756-1822), no children;

4. Margaret Elizabeth Chandler (1810-after 1880), wife of Ludolphus Britton Jones (1796-about 1870), nine children: Mary Margaret, Francis A., Caroline Elizabeth, Samuel James, John Milton Dargan, Edwin Chandler, Mariah, William H., and Susan Jones;

5. George Gray McWhorter Chandler (ca. 1812-ca. 1829), never married.

George Chandler, Jr. passed away before 24 December 1819, the date letters of administration on his estate were granted to his widow Margaret Chandler and son-in-law William Pringle. He was likely buried in one of the already identified Chandler cemeteries or other graveyards on the west side of Rocky Bluff Swamp in Sumter County, SC; however, his actual gravesite is unknown.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with George by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with George:

Chandler-9983 and Chandler-2420 appear to represent the same person because: Same wife and one of daughters. Chandler-2420, clearly the earlier entry, has valuable information, but needs sources. When I created Chandler-9983, I neglected to check closely enough to catch this duplication.
