Biography

Rebecca Chandler was born in 1745. She was the daughter of Joell Chandler and Priscilla Mimms. She passed away in 1788. [1]

Rebecca was much younger than her older siblings and she was still a young girl when her father died in 1755. Her brother Robert Chandler became her guardian and oversaw her schooling as a teenager. She married John Major in 1771 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.

After her marriage, with other family members, she and John Major moved to Surry (later Wilkes) County, North Carolina. In 1789, John Major sued Robert Chandler for additional inheritance money he claimed was due Rebecca from her deceased father. Robert Chandler denied the suit and proved he had given the couple 100 acres of land in Surry Co., North Carolina, after their move as payment. [2]

John and Rebecca (Chandler) Major had 2 daughters:

  1. Sarah Major, b: 1773
  2. Nancy Major, b: 1778

Rebecca's death date and location are not known; it was after 1800.
